Parent Resources

From time to time I will be posting some parent resources here for your consideration. I cannot promise that this post will be updated on a weekly basis, but I do want to give some thought to offering you something beneficial in discipling your children. With this in mind, do not hesitate to ask me to provide resources of a specific nature.

This week, I am including some quick website resources that may be beneficial to encourage you as you seek to lead your child in following our Savior.

A website I tend to check periodically is http://www.lastingdivergence.com/ This site has been developed and maintained by Steve Wright in an effort to support youth ministers and parents as we partner together to lead students to Christlikeness. Steve often includes articles of encouragement and challenge to parents that you might find helpful.

We recently experienced a problem in which Kennedy accidently linked to some content on the internet that was inappropriate . . . fortunately it could have been much worse, but nonetheless it was of great concern. It reminded me of the dangers that exist within our homes regarding the internet and offensive content. I have had the unfortunate opportunity to discuss the problem of internet porn with many teenage guys over my last 10 years of student ministry. With this in mind, I want to recommend two websites that offer help to parents who want to protect their children and develop accountability. The first is http://www.covenanteyes.com/. Covenant Eyes is one of the leaders in offering filtering software and accountability for families desiring to put a stop to the dangers of pornography. The second is http://www.safeeyes.com/. Safe Eyes is very similar to covenant eyes and comes highly recommended as well. The advantage of Safe Eyes is that it comes with both PC and Mac compatibility, where covenent eyes doesn't yet offer the full filtering software for macs. Either option may be a needed companion in your home as a boundary to assist your children in avoiding this devistating sin.

In order to keep this post short, I will end with these for now. Look for more in the days ahead.
